2024 Deer Cull Has Ended
The properties that were temporarily closed for the 2024 Deer Cull are once again OPEN!*
Thank you all for your patience and understanding as our volunteer hunters spent November playing an integral part in our stewardship work. Please note that some hunters may still be in the process of removing their stands and taking down the “Property Closed for Deer Hunt” signs, but the 2024 Deer Cull has officially ended.
Our deer hunting program is one of the more robust programs in the state, covering 3378 acres with 156 participants. The benefits of this program have become abundantly clear. Deer browse across our sites is at a much healthier level, resulting in successful reforestation projects and native plant regeneration. Our NICHES hunters also have volunteered thousands of hours, helping us complete core service projects.
If you have further questions about the program, feel free to email Stewardship Manager Justin Harmeson at justin@nicheslandtrust.org.
*Shawnee Bottoms and Potawatomi Trail are still closed as we work to finish timber stand improvement projects on site.
