Acquiring the land is only the beginning. The real promise of NICHES Land Trust is that our conservation is forever. And forever requires careful stewardship.
Every preserve we protect comes with the long-term responsibility of removing invasive species, maintaining trails, restoring habitat, monitoring conservation easements, and responding to emerging threats. These essential tasks ensure that the lands entrusted to NICHES remain healthy, resilient, and accessible for generations to come.
That’s where the NICHES Stewardship Endowment plays a critical role.
Land protection is forever. The Stewardship Endowment helps us keep that promise.
What Is the Stewardship Endowment?
NICHES Stewardship Endowment is a permanently invested fund dedicated specifically to the long-term care of NICHES-protected lands. Rather than being spent down, the endowment is invested so it can generate reliable annual income (the interest from the investment) to support ongoing stewardship work, year after year.
Why It Matters
When NICHES acquires a new property, we also accept the responsibility to care for it in perpetuity. Stewardship costs don’t end after acquisition. In fact, they can grow over time.A strong Stewardship Endowment allows NICHES to:
- Monitor and uphold conservation easements
- Control invasive species and restore native habitat
- Maintain safe and welcoming preserves
- Respond to storms, flooding, and emerging threats
- Plan confidently for the long-term care of protected lands
How You Can Help
Supporters like you play a vital role in building and sustaining the Stewardship Endowment. There are several meaningful ways to contribute:
Make a direct gift
You can make a donation designated for the Stewardship Endowment online or by contacting our office. NICHES is also able to accept gifts of stock and securities, real estate, and Qualified Charitable Distributions from IRAs.
Include NICHES in your legacy plans
You can make a gift in your will that supports our stewardship. Contact NICHES Development Director Ann Fields Monical at ann@nicheslandtrust.org or (765) 423-1605 to learn more about additional planned giving options.
Honor or memorial gifts
Gifts made in honor or memory of someone special can be directed to the endowment, creating a tribute that lasts for generations.
