This update offers a month to month recap of the stewardship, volunteering, and outreach highlights of 2022 along with other inspiring NICHES news. Land Steward Justin Harmeson shares an article about the volunteer stewardship efforts of our hunting members, and NICHES announces the acquisition of 19.2 more acres of Kohnke’s Little Pine Valley. USFS Eastern Region Geneticist Nick LaBonte writes about his research on white pines in NICHES properties and the need to ensure their survival, which was echoed by Stewardship Director Bob Easter. The issue also announces the 2022 Volunteer of the Year, Ken Jordan. Finally, Emily, Samira, and Vanessa from Black and Brown Outdoors introduce their initiative to promote the connection between nature and people of color.
