2022 Summer
This issue highlights NICHES staff and seasonal stewards, along with articles about stewardship event successes. Sandra Toruño-Silva and Silenze Esquival Benjamin are welcomed into the staff as Administrative Manager and Development Coordinator, respectively, and Jada Laycock and Reagan Muinzer are announced as the 2022 summer stewards. Former summer steward Catherine Fisher shares an inspiring article about how she was drawn to NICHES and why she continuously returns to volunteer events. NICHES introduces a research partnership with Purdue’s Center of Global Soundscapes studying the natural and man-made sounds that define NICHES ecosystems. An article by Stewardship Director Bob Easter describes use of prescribed fires to improve the health of the local ecosystem, Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator Sam Cody shares the success of the 2022 War of the Weeds program, and Stewardship Manager Justin Harmeson recaps the first annual Hunter’s Potluck and the hunting volunteers’ recent successes.
