This edition celebrates new life and development on NICHES properties. Executive director Gus Nyberg welcomes the periodic cicadas with an article on their life cycle and NICHES’ growth since their last emergence. Another article by Chad Evans, WLFI’s Chief Meteorologist, introduces the Fairground Oaks Project–a campaign that resulted in the planting of several thousand trees across 7 preserves. Stewardship Director Bob Easter enthuses about new land acquisitions and local partners, and Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator Sam Cody announces the 2020 Volunteer of the Year, Matt Zeller.
