Swanson’s Bluff
Swanson’s Bluff is prime example of Big Pine Creek habitat, with examples of oak/ pine woodlands, sandstone bluffs and calcareous seeps.
The property contains a range of rare flora from forbes saxifrage, new jersey tea, eastern white pine, purple milkweed, walking fern to name a few.
The creek is home to great smallmouth bass fishing.

History of Acquisition and Property
NICHES acquired Swanson’s Bluff via donation from brothers Bob and Roy Coolman in 2018. Bob and Roy attended and worked at the Methodist Camp on Big Pine Creek, and feel in love with the area. As adults when they were looking for a place for their respective families to connect to the natural world they looked to Big Pine Creek, and were ultimately able to purchase land from the Swanson family. The Swanson family was always looking after their land and helping Coolman families, and as a tribute to their friendship, Bob and Roy choose to name the property in their honor.
How to Get There
At this time, Swanson’s Bluff is publicly accessible by canoe for paddlers, and not open to the public from land. NICHES aims to acquire other tracts of land that will allow land based public access.
