Wise Island


Wise Island is a two acre island in the middle of the Wabash River in northeast corner of Tippecanoe county, near Americus. The island is comprised of silver maples, cottonwoods and NETTLES. Abundant bird life visit or nest on the island, including Belted Kingfishers and Bald Eagles.

The island is a potential stopover site when canoeing down the Wabash River, but be aware of the nettles.

History of Acquisition and Property

The island was once owned by the Wise, Hanna and Brenneman families, and served as a fihsing retreat for them. The land was donated to NICHES by the Wise Family in 2009.

Via Wabash River.


Noteworthy Information

Can only be accessed by boat from the Wabash River. The island is a great place to reflect on your place in the world.
