Whistler Woods Oak Savanna Restoration Workday

Description
Need a break from Christmas and a reason to get outside and help the natural world? Come join us for brush dragging and burning in brush pile(s), followed by a hike.
The bluffs over Deer Creek are home to shade suppressed shooting stars, fire pink, poke milkweed, and a host of other light needing species. We will be engaged in a variety of tasks to assist the recovery of the bluffs over Deer Creek, ranging from cutting, dragging and burning woody debris in brush piles. Please do not wear synthetic outer materials that you do not want pin holes burned into from jumping embers.
The end goal, which we are not expected to reach on this workday, is to modify the habitat to allow light to reach the tops of the south facing slopes and near edge areas to allow the savanna remnant species to shine and thrive into the future.
A hike after the workday, from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., will be an amble down to the shale bluffs along the creek.
You are welcome to attend one or the other or both.
