DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Dark Side: Mothing in Indiana \NFriday, October 3rd (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM)\NJoin Indiana moth expert, Jeanette Jaskula, for a fascinating evening on the Dark Side as we explore the secret life of moths. The evening starts with a presentation about the joy of moths, from their stunning colors, patterns, and behaviors to their important role in our ecosystems as pollinators and members of the web of life. After the talk, we’ll convene outdoors to see what moths visit the light set-up. We’ll also walk a bait trail to look for moths attracted a mixture of beer, brown sugar, and over-ripe bananas that we spread on tree trunks. Children and families are welcome. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight. \NProfile \NJeanette has a master's degree in environmental science from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. She has studied a variety of taxa from salamanders to birds to bats. For the past six years, moths have been her passion. As president of Friends of the Sands, Jeanette has developed public mothing programs at The Nature Conservancy's Kankakee Sands prairie restoration in Newton County, Indiana. She has photographed over 800 moth species at Kankakee Sands and almost 1,500 species in Indiana. Jeanette enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for these rather unknown and under-appreciated creatures of the night. \NClick HERE to register for this event.
